Motor Officers Help Wounded Veterans
On October 9th the SDCMOA recognized "Angels for Our Troops" at a luncheon and presented the organization with a $5,000 check, proceeds from the 13th Annual Terry Bennett Memorial Police Motorcycle Competition. AFOT assists injured veterans suffering from the effects of post traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries.
The annual Peace Officers' Memorial Breakfast will be held on Wednesday, May 3rd. This year the breakfast will again be at MCRD, in the beautiful Bay View Restaurant.

This is always a wonderful social event, attended by members of a variety of law enforcement agencies throughout the San Diego area. It is a nice prelude to the Memorial Ceremony held the same day.

San Diego Police Motorcycle Officer Terry Bennett was riding his police motorcycle while in pursuit of a stolen vehicle when the driver turned and purposely ran over Officer Bennett. He was airlifted to a local hospital where he died a short time later.

While on the San Diego Police Motorcycle Squad he proudly served as a member of the Motorcycle Training Staff. He was instrumental in helping to establish this event. He participated in 2002 and 2003. He placed 1st in the team competition both years, and 1st in 2003, 2nd in 2003 in the individual competition. It is because of his contribution that this event is named.

The event is always open to the public and this year attracted hundreds of family, friends and law enforcement officers. The event took on an international flair, as motorcycle officers from the Tijuana Police Department also participated.

We look forward to seeing you at the event in 2017.
